Operational / Strategic:
Direct the underwriting process to include the quoting process, risk selection and agency relations; maintaining positive relations with the Business Development Team, policy holders and regulatory personnel.
Responsible for consistency and quality assessment of underwriting risk selection, development of tools to improve bottom line results, increase market share, coordinate planning to project the impact of any proposed new or revised policy, procedure or program related to risk selection and related pricing prior to adoption.
Lead the evaluation of the performance of risk classification; identify positive and negative loss trends and making recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer.
Work with the Business Development team to develop regular reports that accurately reflect underwriting and sales representatives’ performance for the year.
Ensure a decrease in the value of the policy when risk is evaluated as substandard while applying ratings to ensure safe profitable distribution of risks using the Company’s reference materials.
Direct the development of action plans for problems that may arise in rating and compliance whiles working especially with the claims team to develop controls that ensure risks are effectively managed.
Ensure the proper evaluation of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance.
Consistently review the Company’s records to determine the amount of insurance in force on a single risk.
Turnaround times and where appropriate recommend to management how these can be improved and establish benchmarks and monitoring tools to future performance.
Ensure an adequate risk retention strategy on each individual life through the re-insurance mechanism.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all Operations related to back and front office activities.
Provide guidance and training on underwriting at new business stage.
Provide guidance and training for claims handling and claims underwriting.
Provide guidance and training on reinsurance and reinsurance accounting Salary Package

Must have deep knowledge of insurance operations; regulatory environment; reinsurance; management accounts, underwriting and product development.
Must display good competence in life and medical underwriting, financial and occupational underwriting.
Must have demonstrable leadership and multitasking skills, engaging and motivating people and guiding team to work with others to accomplish goals.
Proficiency in MS Office.
Must have the ability to read, interpret, and apply information from a variety of sources such as manuals, professional publications, and government regulations; including the ability to seek out such information and to be a leader in disseminating information.
Flexible, ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

A minimum of ten (10) years work experience in the Insurance industry and five (5) years in similar role.
