Start up machinery for first production run, check that machine components are in good working order, confirm that raw material characteristics meet specifications
Monitor material flow and ensure that sufficient materials are continuously available to ensure that production process is not interrupted
A total range of checks on machinery, materials and product are regularly and consistently performed while in operation, making minor adjustments (speed, feed or other controls) to ensure optimal operation
Machine is operated so that product and material wastage is kept to a minimum
Visual quality checks / inspections are carried out to ensure that end-product meets customer, organisational and ISO quality specifications
Root causes of problems with product or process are identified timeously. Non-conformances and/or malfunctions are dealt with in accordance with ruling procedure
Problems of quality, operation, output and safety are correctly identified and appropriately dealt with and/or reported to ensure that downtime is minimised
All required outcomes of work done are recorded and documentation is accurately completed i.e. output vs planned; material usage; incidents, malfunctions and stoppages; quality deviations. Feedback is provided to relevant personnel where appropriate
Finishing activities such as packing or moving of products to other production lines are carried out promptly to avoid bottle necks in the process
Machinery is shut down using the correct sequence as per specifications and required safety procedures
Waste materials are correctly disposed of and re-usable material is stored as per ruling procedure
End of shift / production run duties are efficiently performed and the production status is communicated to relevant personnel on completion
KPA 2 : Maintain occupational Health & Safety standards and good Housekeeping procedures
Personal Protective Clothing (PPC) is correctly worn for protection and to prevent the product being spoiled
The correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used in relation to the specific production environment
Implement and comply with all relevant Health & Safety procedures and requirements at all times
Keep the working environment free from hazards and check that all equipment is in good working order
Identify and report potential hazards in line with standard operating procedures
Good housekeeping practices are applied, the production area is clean and tidy at all times and compliance is essured
KPA 3 : General staff management requirements
Compliance to organisational policies and procedures - Health & Safety, Quality etc
Good timekeeping and attendance record
Participation in meetings and problem-solving
Effective communication with others
