Ensure that the cash flow position of the Company is healthy at all times.
Provide direction, ongoing management and technical guidance for the Department. This includes preparation and monitoring of operating budget for expenses and revenues, financial reporting including preparation of all financial statements and analysis of industry comparative data.
Manage the Company’s premium collection process and overseeing processing of premium/claim payments.
Develop and manage systems of internal controls over Company transactions including billing clients, premium and commission production records, collections and disbursement of funds, financial assets and liabilities.
Ensure that accounts payables are paid in a timely manner, receivables are collected promptly, payroll is processed in a timely manner, periodic bank reconciliations are completed and maintaining an orderly accounting filling system.
Act as the primary financial regulatory contact for all regulators (Insurance Commission et al) as well as internal and external auditors for both ongoing financial reporting requirements and financial examinations.
Ensure that adequate controls are installed including adhering to compliance procedures and internal/operational risk mitigating controls in accordance with any and all applicable regulatory standards, requirements and policies.
Ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and/or international financial reporting standards.
Develop and maintain the capital and operating budget of the company.
Responsible for people management within the department to include up skilling team members, mentoring and developing independent thinking skills and behaviours in team members.
Attend Board and subcommittee meetings including being a member of the Audit/Finance Committee.
Assist in the design, implementation and timely calculation of wage incentives, commissions and salaried of staff.
Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets of the company.

Operational / Strategic:
Direct the underwriting process to include the quoting process, risk selection and agency relations; maintaining positive relations with the Business Development Team, policy holders and regulatory personnel.
Responsible for consistency and quality assessment of underwriting risk selection, development of tools to improve bottom line results, increase market share, coordinate planning to project the impact of any proposed new or revised policy, procedure or program related to risk selection and related pricing prior to adoption.
Lead the evaluation of the performance of risk classification; identify positive and negative loss trends and making recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer.
Work with the Business Development team to develop regular reports that accurately reflect underwriting and sales representatives’ performance for the year.
Ensure a decrease in the value of the policy when risk is evaluated as substandard while applying ratings to ensure safe profitable distribution of risks using the Company’s reference materials.
Direct the development of action plans for problems that may arise in rating and compliance whiles working especially with the claims team to develop controls that ensure risks are effectively managed.
Ensure the proper evaluation of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance.
Consistently review the Company’s records to determine the amount of insurance in force on a single risk.
Turnaround times and where appropriate recommend to management how these can be improved and establish benchmarks and monitoring tools to future performance.
Ensure an adequate risk retention strategy on each individual life through the re-insurance mechanism.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all Operations related to back and front office activities.
Provide guidance and training on underwriting at new business stage.
Provide guidance and training for claims handling and claims underwriting.

Register claim notifications into the claims administration system.
Analyse claims and check it is covered under the policy conditions
Investigate claims application by claimants
Inform clients/claimants of claims acceptance and the mode of payment.
Make recommendations in respect of settlement of claims
Process claim for payments to clients/claimants
Make sure all enquires and payments are dealt with promptly.
Ensure fair settlement and good customer service
Handle all complaints associated with a claim
Keep client/claimants files updated
Record all payments of claims made
Inform your immediate superior of reinsurance recovery where applicable.
Process reinsurance claim recovery

Duties to include:
Review all applications received to ensure that all questions have been answered and premiums accurately calculated.
Return incomplete applications to Business Development Department.
Review and correct wrongly calculated premiums and report to BDD for clients to be contacted for premium change
View all medical cases and refer to the Executive Head, where needed.

Keep detailed and accurate records of policies underwritten and decisions made.
The SENIOR EXECUTIVE OFFICER-UNDERWRITING will perform other duties assigned by the EXECUTIVE HEAD, UNDERWRITING. Salary US$2000 plus GHS4000 local allowance, accommodation & transport provided
Duties to include:
Produce financial and management accounts on a weekly and monthly basis
Manage the daily finance activities and produce timely control reports including stock position, bank reconciliation and debtors list
Manage the office administration of the Tema Office
Supervise and up skill junior staff
Implement and develop control procedures
